Leicester Civic Society Architectural Award for restored property let by SPACE

The 19th Century Great Central Railway building – a former wagon repair works, located off Upperton Road, and once facing demolition, has won a Leicester Civic Society Award.
The building which was once dilapidated and vandalised was restored in a £10 m revamp by our client Jamie Lewis to provide retail units and a coffee shop a cycle store.
SPACE advised on the development site from the outset, with lettings to Evans Cycles, Nisbets and Starbucks, alongside a Lidl foodstore.
The panel were immensely impressed by the high quality of the extremely complex structural work undertaken by Staniforth and RG+P Architects and their contractors.
The awards will be presented at an event on Friday April 15 with Peter Chandler, creative workspace development manager for Leicester City Council as guest speaker.
